The region

De Notelaar is ideally located for a quiet walk, a long hike, on foot or by bike. If you prefer to tour the area by car, we can recommend the Pajottenland, the Bruegelroute, the green belt around Brussels, etc. Only 15 minutes away from the heart of Brussels, we offer the perfect hideout for a city trip to Europe’s capital.

Lively provincial towns such as Halle and Waterloo are within biking reach, just as the canal Brussels-Charleroi that will lead you all the way to Ronquières along the tow path. You will find numerous bicycle hubs and biking routes in the immediate vicinity of our B&B.

Nature lovers will enjoy discovering the country lanes and signposted walks that crisscross the fields and forests. Even the GR 12 is nearby.

Our biggest asset is without any doubt the nearby Hallerbos that is at its most spectacular in spring when the bluebells and silver birches turn it into a cathedral of purple and green.

As far as history is concerned, the area has a lot to offer: Waterloo with its battlefield, the castles of Beersel and Gaasbeek, or the old paper mill Herisemmolen, a fair example of local industrial heritage, the basilica of Halle has recently been restored to its prior glory.

The provincial park (Provinciedomein van Huizingen) with its magnificent garden, swimming pool and playgrounds is certainly worth a visit.

As far as food and drinks are concerned, this is the place to be. Beer lovers will be spoiled as kriek and geuze originated here. We are happy to suggest some tasty addresses for a quick bite or a gastronomic meal.

Whatever your wishes, we will be happy to help you out.
